Lanyards

Lanyards

Lanyards are ropes or cords that can be worn around the wrist, neck or shoulder. These are often used to carry an identification card. Many companies provide their employees with lanyards to wear to keep their ID badges safe and showing at all times.

The style, design, and material of a lanyard varies based on what it is being used for. There are several types of materials used to make lanyards.

Lanyard Materials

A lanyard can be made out of almost any type of material. Some of the materials that can be used to create customized lanyards include:

  • Nylon
  • Polyester
  • Bamboo
  • Polypropylene
  • Recycled plastic

Each of these materials can be used to make your customized lanyard for your company. The most popular type of material to use for lanyards is polyester. The reason for this is because polyester is quite cheap to produce and when used for lanyards it can easily be printed on.

Nylon is another popular choice, but it is a bit more expensive to use than polyester. However, nylon will provide the lanyard with a glossier finish, which looks very nice.

Bamboo, polypropylene, and recycled plastic are also great choices for creating a customized lanyard for employees or consumers. Each of these materials can be printed on to create a great looking lanyard.

End Fittings

When creating a customized lanyard you will also need to choose an appropriate end fitting. There are several different options available including:

  • Swivel Hook
  • Split Ring
  • Bulldog Clip
  • Wide Plastic Hook
  • No-twist Hook

The type of end fitting that is chosen will depend on what the lanyard is being used for. A swivel hook will allow the ID badge to turn around. Split rings are similar to what keychains use. These will require that a hole be punched in the top of the badge so that it can be placed through the ring. A bulldog clip is a simple clip that the badge will be attached to. This is a good choice if the ID badge will need to be removed throughout the day. The wide plastic hooks also require holes to be punched in the card as the hook will go directly through the card. A no swivel hook will keep the ID firmly in place. This is ideal for fields where there is a danger of the ID becoming caught in a machine.

Creating Custom Lanyards

It is simple to create your own custom lanyard for your company. You can create a design for your lanyard, choosing the colors, images, and text that will be placed on the lanyard material. Once you have created the design you can order your customized lanyard. There is typically a minimum order requirement of 100 units for customized lanyards because the printer will have to create a template to use for them.

Lanyards can not only be used for employees, but also for customer giveaways, at events, or for marketing purposes for your company.
